Tarpon Springs, Florida

Tarpon Springs is located on the Gulf Coast of Florida. It is one of my favorite places to visit!
The Sponge Docks are why I love Tarpon Springs. It is a small Greek village along the coast with hundreds of little shops, bakeries, and Greek restaurants. They also feature sightseeing cruises where you can watch divers harvest sponges from the sea.
One of our favorite shops is Spiceman's Kitchen. They have every hot sauce imaginable sitting on one of their shelves. Even though the clerk said pictures weren't allowed I managed to sneak a few in

If you find yourself traveling the Gulf Coast near Tarpon Springs you should take the side roads and head on down to The Sponge Docks for an afternoon of fun!

I am not familiar with this town but it looks interesting. I think I heard about the hot sauce shop on the Travel Channel if I'm not mistaken but that could have been a different one. And the nostalgic candy store looks fun. I see the wax bottles on the table. I remember those.
I wonder why they didn't want you to take pictures inside the store?

Do the sponges put up a big fight?

Ack, no temptation of pastries this morning. I love the picture of the boats and nets though.

The cakes in the display made my mouth watery. Just took my dinner here and sure wish to have a bite on one of those cakes.

Thanks for the tips. I have some in-laws in Tarpon Springs that I've never visited. But now that I know there are some cool things to do, I'll have to make sure we stop by next time we're in Florida.
Great job sneaking in the photos at Spiceman's Kitchen.

This is a place I would definitely love to go! Of course I'd undoubtedly leave there so very poor so maybe I should stay away for a few years.

I live just outside Tarpon Springs, and it's a great place to live! Yes, those "things" on the dock are the sponges that the sponge divers just brought up from the bay! There's a boat that will take you out, and you can get some of the sponges while they're still wet, and it's so neat!

I love to go to the sponge factory and get the great deals on soap.
the shops are so nice on tuesday evenings when there are few tourists and mostly the locals are out walking and having dinner.
