Always take a Cooler

Whenever we travel we pack a cooler for the road.  Not only is it convenient, it is economical.  A convenience store typically charges $1.59 (or more) per single beverage but at my local grocery store I can buy a 12 pack of sodas for $3.99.

A cooler is good for more items than simply beverages.  We usually pack a few items so we have something to snack on after we get to our destination - meat and cheese already cut for crackers, yogurt, alcohol and any mixers, jar of hot mix, olives.  Typically it's items I have at home that I don't want to waste valuable vacation time shopping for.

After we reach our destination we use the cooler as a picnic basket!  It's great for short day trips to the beach.  You can take lunch meat, cheese and bread and stop by any picnic table for lunch.  It's also good for keeping bagged ice so you aren't making so many trips to the ice machine.

On the ride home we frequently use it for keeping our seafood cold.  Most trips we take are to the coast and we always come home with fresh catch from the local seafood stores.

Pack a cooler on your next trip and enjoy the convenience and the savings!

Ahhh. Seeing the pictures of the sand and the ocean, reading your blog about coolers...ahhh, makes me really long for the beach. Great advice and very useful!

I just love the stuff on this blog. I am a dedicated traveller who prefers the unspoilt locations on our planet. Sometimes I am gone for weeks in my hiking escapades to the wild places of Africa. Your piece of advise is therefore most timely and deserving.

No wonder your blog is one of my favorites at entrecard. Keep blogging

Back when we were kids, we often made long road trips on limited funds (we were in the army and had to drive about 10 hours to visit family). My mother would always pack a cooler with drinks and food so we didn't have to pay for food along the way, so our only real expense was gas (which back then was cheap, cheap...26 cents a gallon).

I still recommend this to folks going on trips, especially families with limited funds.

If my hubby had one piece of wisdom to impart to everyone, this would be it!! We don't even go out for the evening w/out at least one of those small 6-can coolers... you never know when you'll get thirsty!!
